Gregory Kiel Obituary

Gregory Thomas Kiel passed away on February 5h, 2021 in Castle Rock, CO. He was born January 2, 1972 to Stafford (Gene) Kiel and Mary Frances (LaSota) Kiel in Ft. Scott, KS. Greg grew up in Oswego, KS and attended high school there and in Pittsburg, KS, graduating from Pittsburg High School in 1990. Throughout his childhood, he played baseball, basketball and golf; even having a special kidney pad vest made to protect the one kidney he had from being injured while he played. After high school, he continued his education at Pittsburg State University where he joined Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and graduated with a degree in education in 1995. Greg married Stacia Luetkemeyer in 2004 and they had two children, Luke and Josie. They later divorced.
Greg loved sports. Throughout the various districts he taught at, he was able to indulge his love of baseball by helping many young men improve their skills through personal coaching and baseball camps. He especially enjoyed his time spent coaching for the Doyle Baseball School in Florida and he loved coaching his son’s baseball and basketball teams throughout the years in Tulsa, OK and Castle Rock, CO. Helping young men reach their full potential, as athletes and as men, was truly his passion.
Greg loved his friends. He shared a special bond with all his Sigma Phi Epsilon brothers and enjoyed the alumni get togethers at PSU homecomings.
Greg loved his family. He is survived by his son; his daughter; his mother; a sister, Stacey (Kiel) Armstrong and a brother Jeffrey (Sandy) Kiel. He was preceded in death by his father.
