Janet Pittman Obituary

        Janet E. Pittman, 81, of Pittsburg, passed away at 5:40 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the Via Christi Hospital.

          She was born October 7, 1939 at Bremen, Indiana the daughter of Noble and Hazel (Berger) Nusbaum. She attended school in Bremen, Indiana, and graduated from high school in Fort Pierce, Florida.  She began college at Purdue University being named the outstanding freshmen student in physics in 1957 but later graduated from Northeastern Oklahoma State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma with a degree in accounting.

          On November 16, 1958, she was united in marriage to James J. Pittman in Bremen, Indiana. After living in Wisconsin, Michigan, Arkansas, and Oklahoma, they moved to Pittsburg in 1991. He preceded her in death on October 11, 2007.

          Mrs. Pittman worked as an accountant for Beverly Nursing Home for several years. She also served as the church secretary for several area churches, including St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, St. John Lutheran Church, and the First United Methodist Church. Janet was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross and worked the Joplin Tornado. She was a volunteer for SEK-CAP.

          Membership was held in the Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Deacon. Janet enjoyed traveling, going to Costa Rica, Iceland, and many other places including Italy with the Our Lady of Lourdes Church Choir.

          Survivors include her daughter, Jean Winters and her husband, Bobby of Pittsburg; three granddaughters, Lora Winters and her husband, Andrew Klusener, Sarah Winters, and Lydia Winters; and two grandsons, Josh and Lucas.

          She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother and a sister.

          A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday (May 7) at Brenner Mortuary with Pastor Tom Wehrmen officiating. In respect for the family, we are asking everyone to wear face coverings and practice social distancing. The service will be live streamed at www.brennermortuary.com through Janet's obituary page. Burial will take place at a later date in Indiana. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial be made to the American Red Cross. These can be left at or mailed to Brenner Mortuary.  Arrangements are under the direction of Brenner Mortuary 114 E. 4th Street, Pittsburg KS.
