Joseph Monsour Obituary

Joseph “Jodie” Carl Monsour, Jr of Pittsburg, Kansas passed peacefully with family by his side on November 6, 2021 at the age of 65. He was born on December 29, 1955 and was the son of Joseph Carl Monsour, Sr and Della Jeannine (Mosier) Monsour.
Jodie was preceded in death by his parents, maternal grandparents Robert and Lucy Mosier and paternal grandparents, Pete and Zina Monsour.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Monsour, eight children: Jaime Portillo (Cesar), Anthony “AJ” Monsour (Thrisa), Melissa Jones, Nicole Roebke (David), Michael Edwards (Jordan), Charles “CJ” Monsour (Samantha), Jason Monsour (fiancé, Ashley) and Austin Monsour (Shelby), 13 grandchildren: Tessa Monsour, MaKayla Jones, Blake Monsour, Ryan Roebke (Mykala), Feliciana Alexander (Tristen), Katelynn Jones, Giovanni DiCamillo, Sebastian Portillo, Sovereign Monsour, Kendrick Jones, Ataleigh Roebke, Kaiden Monsour and Rylan Monsour, and 1 great grandchild: Elithyia Monsour as well as many other family members and friends.
Jodie graduated from St. Mary’s Colgan High School in 1973. He was a lifetime entrepreneur and collector of a variety of items. He began his career with the family business, Monsour’s Inc. He was the owner/operator of Good Times Disco, which opened in 1979. He co-owned J&J Warehouse grocery store with his father, which he later converted to a Flea Market then Auction House before retiring from the business. He was the Chief Operating Officer of an Assisted Living Home in Iola, KS for 20 years. Throughout his 20’s, Jodie enjoyed deep sea fishing and scuba diving. He was a member of the scuba diving club J.A.W.S. He had a passion for cars, especially cudas, and owned 130 of them throughout the years. He was known far and wide as the “Cuda Man”. He also loved buying, collecting, and selling antique toys as well as many other valuable collectibles, and his eyes would light up when he was able to share each items background story. Jodie enjoyed fishing, especially when he was accompanied by his children and grandchildren. Jodie was a generous man, always helping others in need, donating to food pantries and volunteering his time to community projects. He was an animal lover and never left an endangered turtle on the side of the road. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
A rosary service will be held at Brenner Mortuary on Friday, November 12, 2021 at 6pm. The family will receive friends following the Rosary until 8:00 p.m. Honorary pallbearers are Blake Monsour, Ryan Roebke, Giovanni DiCamillo, Sebastian Portillo, Kendrick Jones, Kaiden Monsour and Rylan Monsour. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family suggests memorial be made to Wesley House in Pittsburg, Kansas.
