Keith Carr Obituary

Keith Wayne Carr, 69, of Pittsburg, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park, KS.

Keith was born in Pittsburg May 27, 1951. He was the fifth of five children to Everett Eugene and Edith May Carr of Weir. He is survived by his daughter, Heather (Mark) Harris of Washington State and their daughters, Kelsey Harris and Whitney (Jerry) Day of North Carolina. He is also survived by his oldest siblings E. Eugene “Gene” Carr, Jr. of Girard and Nancy Forbes of Arma, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Carl Richard “Dick” Carr and Doris Waggener, as well as his longtime companion Claudia Cornell of Parsons.

Keith grew up in Weir and graduated from Columbus Unified High School, Class of 1968. He joined the Army in 1971. He and his young family lived in Independence, KS until their move to Pittsburg. Shortly after their move, Keith began his career working in the Physical Plant of Pittsburg State University in 1979 until he retired in 2011. In addition to working at PSU, Keith earned his Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems during those early years. Keith proudly served in the 89th Regional Support Command Army Reserve - 243rd Supply & Services Battalion out of Parsons, KS. Keith retired from the United States Army in 2000 after 39 years of honorable service.

Keith belonged to and dedicated many years of service and brotherhood to the following organizations: Black Diamond Masonic Lodge #274 AF & AM Weir – Lifetime Member, Past Master and Secretary; Marvin A. Armstrong Masonic Lodge #187 AF & AM Pittsburg - Past Patron, Associate Patron of Order of Eastern Star Kent Chapter 117 Weir; Mirza Shrine, Mirza Shrine Kick off Club, Crawford Country Club and Hospital Dads Pittsburg; Valley of Ft. Scott Scottish Rite, Red Cross of Constantine York Rite, he had just been accepted into the Order of Quetzalcoatl of which he was very proud; Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priest of the Wyandotte Masonic Lodge of Kansas City, KS.

Keith will be missed dearly and remembered for his humor, dedication, friendship, and amazing ability to let everyone know how special they were to him. He effortlessly provided his family unconditional love, support, and gentle guidance. He loved to travel and socialize and did so until he was no longer able to.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 20th) at the Brenner Mortuary with Dan Muter officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery, where the U.S. Army Funeral Detail will provide graveside military rites. The funeral services will be livestreamed through www.brennermortuary.com on Keith’s obituary page. The Black Diamond Lodge No. 274 will provide Masonic rites at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at Brenner Mortuary. Following the Masonic rites, the family will receive friends until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home where friends may call after 10:00 a.m. to sign the register.  The family suggests memorials be given to Mirza Shrine &/or American Red Cross. In respect for the family, we are asking everyone to wear face coverings and practice social distancing.
