Barbara (Perry) Shanks

Barbara Shanks, 77, of Pittsburg, passed away the morning of November 24th, 2025 at the Via Christi Village.

Barbara was born August 15th, 1948 to Audra and Virginia (VanGorden) Perry. She was a lifelong member of the Pittsburg community and a graduate of Pittsburg High School.

On January 12th 1968, Barbara was united in marriage to Ralph Shanks at the First Christian Church of Pittsburg. Barbara spent her career as a Para Educator for USD #250. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.

Barbara is survived by her daughter; Stacye Ortiz of Frontenac, KS, two sons; Shane Shanks (Victoria) of Pittsburg, KS and Tim Shanks of Pittsburg, KS, a brother; Stephen Perry (Debbra) of Locust Grove, OK, and two grandchildren; Sam and Ethan Ortiz of Kansas City.

She is preceded in death by her husband; Ralph Shanks, her brother; Richard Perry, and her sister; Kay Marshall.

Following cremation, a graveside service will be held at the Fort Scott National Cemetery on December 8th, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the SEK Humane Society, and may be left in care of Brenner Mortuary.
