Candis “Candy” Marlene Gibson, 77, of Pittsburg, passed away at 4:19 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2025 at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburg.
She was born January 1, 1948 in Pittsburg, the daughter of Samuel W. and Ruth Maxine (Combs) Haslam. She graduated from Pittsburg High School and attended Bethany Nazarene College. On December 31, 1967, she was united in marriage to Darrel Gibson at the First Church of the Nazarene on 4th St., Pittsburg. Candy was the co-owner of Custom Upholstery and Draperies, where she was also the seamstress.
Membership was held in the First Church of the Nazarene, where she was very active, serving as the Mission President, former Board Member, Played the Organ, Piano, and sang in the Choir. She also was instrumental in the Kids Quiz’s, and belonged to the Prime Time Class.
In addition to her husband, Darrell, she is survived by three children, Melissa Jackson (Barry) of Edgerton, KS, Matthew Gibson (Brenda) of Paola, KS; and Marlene Shirley (Scott) of Merriam, KS; a sister, Jeannetta Dahl (Wayne) of Olathe, KS; four grandchildren, Kathryn Anderson (Alexander), Madison Shirley, Katelyn Colahan (Jacob), and Brett Jackson; nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews; and many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and an infant grandson, Peter Joseph Jackson.
A service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2025 at the First Church of the Nazarene with Pastors Kyle Rogers, Pastor Adam Parrish and Pastor Jim Sukraw officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 29th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Brenner Mortuary. The family suggests memorials be given to First Church of the Nazarene – Prime Time or Missons. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
