Carolyn E. (Entrekin) Pickel

Carolyn E. Pickel, 88, of Pittsburg, passed away at 6:52 a.m. Sunday, March 6, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born March 27, 1933 at Central, South Carolina, the daughter of William Marshall and Agnes (Gillespie) Entrekin.

On June 26, 1954, she was united in marriage to Obie Samuel Pickel at Pickens, South Carolina. They lived mostly in Greenville, South Carolina before moving to Pittsburg in 2002.

Membership was held in the Trinity Baptist Church. She and her husband took great pride in his yard and was the recipient of the Pittsburg Beautiful Award in September 2011.

Survivors include her daughter, Denise Calloway and her husband, Terry of Pittsburg; a sister, Ann Swords of Liberty, South Carolina and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and four sisters.

The family would also like to thank Mrs. Pickel’s caregivers from Caring Hearts, Avalon Hospice and Meals on Wheels for the special care they provided.

Service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (March 9) at the Brenner Mortuary with Chaplain David Johnson and Rev. Jordan Hodges co-officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (March 12) in the Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Pickens, South Carolina with Rev. Bill Pickel officiating. The family suggests memorials to the SEK Humane Society. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS  66762.
