Cecil Wayne Flood, 86, of rural Weir died at 11:37 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2021, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin.
He was born July 5, 1935, in rural Texas County, Missouri to George Leslie Flood and Bertha Irene Dixon Flood. At an early age he moved to Weir and lived his entire life in the Weir area.
He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Brohl on June 28, 1958, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Weir. She preceded him in death.
Cecil attended the University of Houston as an undergraduate engineering student and transferred to Pittsburg State University completing his degree in chemistry. He worked for Spencer Chemical in the 1960’s. He returned to PSU as a graduate teaching assistant receiving a master’s degree in mathematics in 1972. Mr. Flood taught math at McCune High School until 1978 at which time he became the Purchasing Manager for Eagle Picher in Quapaw, Oklahoma. He retired in 1997. He enjoyed working around the farm, traveling, attending grandkids ball games and spending time as an adjunct math instructor in his retirement.
He had been a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Weir, St. Bridget’s Catholic Church of Scammon, and was a current member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Pittsburg. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include two sons, Mark (Sherri) Flood of rural Weir and Tim (Chris) Flood of rural Weir, a daughter Valerie (Steve) Walter of rural Beloit, Kansas, thirteen grandchildren, Peggy (fiancé Jeremy Morris), Matthew, Zachary, Aaron (Emily), Katelyn, Nathan, Ryan, and Lauren Flood, Greg, Maryann, Clare, Blaise, and Madeline Walter and three great-grandchildren Auggie, JP, and Cecelia Flood.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother Wilbur, a sister Lois Florence, and an infant daughter, Christina Lynn Flood.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Our Lady Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Robert McElwee as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery at Weir. The parish rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Our Lady of Lourdes with visitation following until 8:00 p.m. The family suggests expressions of sympathy be in the form of Masses or to St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
