Charles "Chuck" Haile Obituary

Charles “Chuck” Bruce Haile, 75, of Pittsburg, passed away at 5:14 p.m. Friday, February 5, 2021 at Select Specialty Hospital-St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas.

He was born December 13, 1945 at Wichita, Kansas to Charles Bruce and Margaret E. (Chandler) Lossing. He was raised and adopted by his step-father, John Haile. He graduated from Harrisonville High School.

Chuck served in the United States Army serving in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1968 before being honorably discharged.

After serving in the Army, Chuck drove a semi-truck while living in California. After moving back to Pittsburg, he worked for a local cable company. In 1973 he went to work for the Kansas City Southern Railroad, starting as a brakeman, then conductor before becoming an engineer. He retired after 30 years of service with them.

On June 22, 2003, he married Sandra Overman in Pittsburg. She survives at the family home.

Chuck loved to camp, fish, and watch NASCAR racing. He loved to bowl, where he participated with his bowling team in area leagues. Chuck was especially proud of receiving a bowling ring for scoring a perfect 300.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy of the home; two sons, Jason Haile of Orange, Texas and Chris Haile and his wife, Lauren of Land O’Lakes, Florida;

a brother, Stephen Haile and his wife, Rita of Fayetteville, Arkansas; two sisters, Nyla Earnst of Cassidy, Kansas and DeArah Van de Willie and her husband, Fred of Fayetteville, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Jackson, Jillian, Gabrielle and Emmersyn; six nephew, 15 great-nephews and 4 great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Lossing and John and Margaret Haile.

A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2021 at the Brenner Mortuary with Rev. Mark Chambers officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home on Friday. The funeral will be livestreamed through www.brennermortuary.com website on Chuck’s obituary page. Military rites will be presented by the US Army National Guard. In respect for the family, we are asking everyone to wear face coverings and practice social distancing. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday to sign the register. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the Wounded Warrior and/or Disabled American Veterans. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS  66762. Friends may also leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary.
