Charlotte McColm Obituary

Charlotte Sue McColm, 83, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023, at her home in rural Girard, Kansas.
She attended a country school for 8 years, Liberty District #14, a one room schoolhouse north of McCune, Kansas, on her grandparent's property that she and her husband purchased in 1995. She went to McCune Rural High School graduating in 1957. She moved to Winfield, Kansas and entered William Newton Memorial School of Nursing, graduating in 1960 with a RN degree. She married her high school sweetheart Karl C McColm on April 1, 1961 at the United Chapel Church north of McCune. They moved to their rural Girard home in 1965 and she worked in a variety of nursing fields for 45 years. She enjoyed being a wife, mother, and homemaker as well as her nursing. Charlotte was baptized and joined the McCune Church of the Nazarene in 1984.
She is survived by her spouse Karl C McColm of rural Girard; two sons, Darren L. McColm of Ft. Scott, KS, and Karl Aaron McColm of rural Girard; one granddaughter, Madyson McColm of Wilmington, NC; one brother, Gerald Kernick of Weaverville, NC and one sister, Koleen DeMoss of Ottawa, KS.
She is preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin Morris Kernick, Edward Lee Kernick, infant brother, Richard Eugene Kernick, and infant sister, Kathern Faye Kernick.
Graveside services will be Thursday, March 23, 2023 at 10:30 am at the Monmouth Cemetery east of McCune, with Pastor Clair Uitts officiating. Memorial donations can be made to the Arthritis Research Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS.
