David Hobson Obituary

David Wesley Hobson, 103, passed away at 11:25 a.m. on Friday, June 28, 2024 at Medicalodge of Pittsburg, Kansas.

David Wesley Hobson was born Tuesday, December 21, 1920 in Cherokee County, Kansas to William Grover Hobson and Leona Diane (Hughes.) Hobson.

David served in the United States Army during WWII from August 1942 until December 1945, as a Medical Supply Specialist. He was drafted to Camp Berkley in Texas and then shipped overseas to Medford, England before being honorably discharged.

In 1945, he was united in marriage to Nora Mae Wilson at the home of Danny near 160 Hwy. She preceded him in death on June 21, 1989. On June 23, 1992, he married Beverly Jean (Whaley) at the Victory Life Center in Pittsburg. She resides at the family home.

Mr. Hobson was a farmer for over forty years, residing at his current residence for 61 years. He hauled milk for Kraft Milk of Oswego for three years.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion of Cherokee; a former member of the Heartland Auto Club and could be seen driving his classic cars around the area and the Southwest Missouri Pony Pullers Association, where he pulled competitively during the 1960s.          

He is survived by a daughter, Dixie Hobson of rural Cherokee; three sons, Jim Hobson (Carolyn) of rural Cherokee, Bob Hobson of Cherokee, KS, and Douglas Hobson (Irene Young) of rural Pittsburg; three grandsons, one granddaughter, 4 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Leslie Hobson, who was killed in the Battle of the Bulge, Willard Hobson, and Wayne Hobson and a sister, Eunice Bronson.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday (July 3) at Brenner Mortuary, with Pastor Don Talent officiating. Burial will follow in the Cherokee City Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Brenner Mortuary. Memorial donations can be made to American Legion of Cherokee. These may be left in care of Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS  66762. Arrangements are under the direction of Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, KS.
