David “Dave” J. Martin, 44, of Kansas City, MO, passed away on August 15, 2022, in Pittsburg, KS. Dave was born on February 25, 1978, in Houston, TX, to Ronald B. and Diana K. (Hastings) Martin. He attended schools in Pittsburg. In 2001, he was united in marriage to Lindsay Geren. He is survived by Lindsay, of Kansas City, MO, by his mother, of Pittsburg, KS, and by his sister, Tracy Nauman, of Pueblo, CO. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and one great-great nephew. Dave adored them all. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Marc Martin.
Dave was an artist and a chef, known to give a tattoo then throw down on the grill or on the stove. He had an absolute passion for music, which was his life’s great love. A walking encyclopedia, he could recite song titles for bands ranging from Bouncing Souls to Run DMC to the Boss, Bruce Springsteen. He loved the opportunity to introduce people to new music, play a record he was enjoying in the moment, or tell a tale from a concert he had worked or attended. He had the pleasure of meeting several of his musical heroes. His second greatest love was the Boston Red Sox. There is no one who cheered louder or longer when they finally won the World Series in 2004, ending an 86-year drought. His love for the game was infectious, passing on that love to several nieces and nephews. His love for his family, friends, and passions will be sorely missed.
A private memorial service will be held at Brenner Mortuary. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS. In lieu of flowers, please donate in his name to a charity of your choice. Dave loved helping others, even if it meant giving the last of what he had.
