Della Monsour Obituary

Della Jeannine (Mosier) Monsour passed away Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS.

She was born on November 7, 1929 in Pittsburg to Robert and Lucy Mosier.

Della was a lifelong member of Mt. Carmel (Ascension Via Christi) Ladies’ Auxiliary of Pittsburg, KS.  She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Altar Society, President/Treasurer for Widow and Widowers, Friday Study Club and involved with Mother-to-Mother Ministry Organization. Della graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1947.  She was a member of the Reunion Alumni Committee.  The Class of 1947 celebrated reunions for at-least 63 years.  Upon graduation Della was a telephone operator for a brief period.  Shortly after she married her husband, Joe Monsour on June 26, 1948, she went to work as a bookkeeper for Monsour’s Inc.  Della played a very vital role that contributed to a successful family business.  She retired shortly after Joe passed away and continued to remain very active in her church organizations.  She was a lifelong Bridge Club member, which brought her great joy along with lifelong friendships.  Della, along with four dear friends, opened a gift shop in Pittsburg, “Occasions”.  She was also owner/operator of an Assisted Living home in Iola, KS for 20 years in which her son, Jodie Monsour, was Chief Operating Officer.  She was able to experience and enjoy many travels both domestic and abroad with her brother and sister-in-law, immediate family, and close friends.  Della was an exceptional cook who especially loved to cook for her family.  She learned the art of cooking Lebanese cuisine from her mother-in-law, Zina Monsour, who she referred to as a wonderful teacher.  In her later years she had planned and organized the Mosier family reunions.  She had recently passed the torch to her nephew, Steve Mosier, and cousin, Steve Story.  She enjoyed life to the fullest, but her greatest passion was to be surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Della was kind, generous, gracious, accepting, humble, and always considerate of others.  She was sharp and witty, gentle but strong and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.  Della’s legacy will live on through her family.  Her life was a life well lived and her soul will live on forever in the House of our Lord.

She is survived by her children, Joseph Carl Monsour, Jr. and Jan (Monsour) Craddock; her nine grandchildren, Jamie (Monsour) Portillo, Haley (Holt) Fry, A. J. Monsour, Nicole (Monsour) Roebke, Jordan Johnson, Abbey Johnson, C.J. Monsour, Jason Monsour, and Austin Monsour; nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Sandra (Mosier) Macky and husband, Joseph Carl Monsour, Sr.

Mass of Christian burial is set for 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 16, 2021, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Pittsburg, with Father Andrew Labenz as Celebrant.  The service will be live streamed through Mrs. Monsour’s obituary at brennermortuary.com.  Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery, Pittsburg.  The Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Brenner Mortuary.  The family will receive friends following the Rosary until 7:30 p.m.  In consideration for others, the family asks that you wear a mask if unvaccinated while participating in the services.  The family suggests memorials to the Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Fund and/or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.  These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS  66762.  Friends may also leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, KS.
