Elizabeth "Betty" Holcomb Obituary

          Betty Jean (Layden) Holcomb, 91, of Pittsburg, passed away at 5:31 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2021 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital.

          Betty Jean Layden was born August 22, 1929 at Pittsburg, to James Merle and Anna Marie (Arbori) Layden. She graduated from Frontenac High School in 1947, where she was the Basketball Homecoming Queen her senior year. She was also a Cheerleader for her beloved Frontenac Raiders. Her class of 1947 was like her family and she loved them all!

          On September 2, 1950, she married Lilbert “Bert” G. Holcomb in Pittsburg. He preceded her in death on May 23, 2008.

          Betty was involved with Weight Watchers in St. Joseph, Missouri for twenty-five years. She was District Manager for Weight Watchers with a staff of 51, whom she taught to help people lose weight and work for Weight Watchers.

          Survivors include two sons, Gary L. Holcomb of Lenexa, Kansas and David S. Holcomb of Pittsburg; and two grandsons, Ryan Christopher and Zachary Aaron, who were her pride and joy.

          She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

          A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS  66762.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, KS.
