Elmire “Elm” Ferraro, 96, of Pittsburg, passed away at 11:47 a.m. Friday, January 1, 2021 at Oakview Estates surrounded by her family.
She was born December 20, 1924 at Edison, Kansas, to John “Jack” and Helen (DeBoth) Grisolano. She grew up near Camp 50 and graduated from Crawford County High School in Arma.
On July 15, 1948, she was united in marriage to Pete Ferraro at Independence, Missouri. He preceded her in death on March 30, 2015.
Mrs. Ferraro worked at the Girard Courthouse and Fadlers, before becoming a homemaker. Taking care of her family was her most important role. She loved to paint, and she and her husband painted and sold wood crafts in area craft stores for many years. She and Pete also loved to dance. In early years they went to the Gay Parita in Carona and the Tower Ballroom. They could also be found at Barto's every Saturday night.
Membership was held in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Jacki Johnson and her husband, Mark of Pittsburg; a son, Randy Ferraro and his wife, Debbie of Columbus; a brother, Jack Grisolano and his wife Maxine of Chicopee; three grandchildren, Jeremy Johnson and his wife, Megan of Pittsburg, Joshua Johnson and his wife, Bekah of Jacksonville, Florida; and Logan Johnson and his fiancé Sara Joseph of Rogers, Arkansas; and a great-grandson, Milo Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister, Catherine “Peachy” Ratusz.
A Private Family Graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the Garden of Memories Cemetery with Fr. Phillip J. Voegeli officiating. Burial will follow the services. Mrs. Ferraro’s services will be livestreamed on her obituary page at www.brennermortuary.com. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday at the Brenner Mortuary to sign the register book. The family suggests memorials be given to the Oakview Estates Activity Fund. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
