Georgia "Lu" Imhof Obituary

Georgia Luella Imhof, 94, of Cherokee, Kansas passed away at 2:25 a.m.  Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at Ascension Living, Pittsburg, she had been a resident for twenty months.

Georgia “Lu” was born February 22, 1930 in Moundville, Missouri to Samuel A. and Charolottie (Smith) Heitz. Although, she was born on George Washington’s birthday, you did not get away with calling her Georgie.

Early childhood was around Moundville, Missouri before moving to West Mineral and Cherokee, Kansas. She graduated from Cherokee High School.

On December 25, 1950, she married Floyd J. Imhof at her parent’s home with family and friends present. They were married for 57 years.

Lu worked for USD 247 for 38 years in Food Services. She started at Southeast High School in 1966, moving to Head Cook at Cherokee Grade School and finishing her career as Food Service Director until retiring at age 75. Lu and her fellow workers were known for their cinnamon rolls and hot yeast rolls. They won several 1st places at annual conferences.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She traveled to Alaska twice after turning 80 years old, which entailed her first plane and cruise ship trip.

She is survived by her children, Brenda Lemmons of Pittsburg, F. Brent Imhof of Cherokee, Steve Imhof of Girard, and Annette Stacy (Brett) of Pittsburg; grandchildren, J. Brian Lemmons of Kemah, TX, Jana Austerman (Mike) of Arma, and Brittany Kelly (Jeremy) of Pittsburg; five great-grandchildren, Katie and Kylee Austerman of Arma, Chase, Ely, and Kurt Kelly of Pittsburg; sister-in-law, Cholanne Heitz of Cherokee and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam A. & Charlottie Heitz, husband, Floyd Imhof, an infant brother, a sister, Deloris Jones and a brother, Sam L. Heitz.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday (Jan. 24) at the Brenner Mortuary with Pastor Jim Sukraw officiating. Burial will follow in the Cherokee City Cemetery, Cherokee. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Friday, at the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg. The family suggests memorials for an Educational Scholarship to SEHS. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS. 66762. Friends may leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.
