Glenda Kay Best, 78, of Pittsburg, Kansas, passed away at 12:40 a.m., Sunday, March 30, 2025, at her home.
She was born August 27, 1946 in Decatur, Texas to Oscar Bayne "Tex" and Wilma G. (Knowles) Harrell. She graduated from Haltom City High School, near Ft. Worth.
On December 25, 1964, she was united in marriage to John Best at his parent’s house in McCune. They lived in rural McCune for several years before moving to Pittsburg. He survives at the family home.
Glenda worked as a substitute mail carrier in McCune for several years, at Ron’s IGA after moving to Pittsburg, and as a personal assistant for Gene Bicknell at his home. But despite her other jobs, Glenda’s favorite job was being a homemaker, wife, mother, and Noni.
She was a devoted member of the McCune United Methodist Church and an active member of the OES Kent Chapter #117, where she served as Worthy Matron. Glenda also played a key role as the Queen Coordinator for the Kansas High School Rodeo Association for several years and was involved with the Happy Hustlers 4-H Club.
A steadfast pillar of support for her family’s horse adventures, Glenda’s dedication extended beyond her immediate family—she selflessly cared for both loved ones and friends, always going above and beyond as a caregiver.
In addition to her husband, John Best, she is survived by three daughters, Cara Kubler (Greg) of Pittsburg, KS, Kim Harland (Marc) of Buffalo, OK and Karin Nielsen of Louisburg, KS; eleven grandchildren, Camrin Sellers, Kyle Kubler, Kade Harland, Jace Harland, Avyn Harland, Olivia Harland, Kylar Terlip, Breck Nielsen, Lincoln Nielsen, Kelsey Parsons, and Jessica Leake; a great-grandson, Bridger Harland; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Dr. Charles Bayne Harrell, a sister and brother-in-law, Judy Ann and Ray Bicknell, and a son-in-law, Tyghe Nielsen.
A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday (April 4) at the McCune Methodist Church with Rev. Myron Stover officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be Wade McGown, Chris Sellers, Sheldon Bicknell and Mitch Bicknell. Kent Chapter #117 will provide OES services at 6:00 p.m. Thursday (April 3) at the Brenner Mortuary. The family will receive friends following OES services until 8:00 p.m. A private family burial will take place at a later time. The family suggests memorials be given to McCune Methodist Church &/or Hospice Compassus. These may be left in care of Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762. Friends may leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, KS.
