Harriett Wintle Neer peacefully passed away February 9th, 2025 at Via Christi Village in Pittsburg, KS. She was born to Harry & Dollie Wintle as Crawford County New Year’s baby on January 1st, 1938. Mrs. Neer attended Eugene Field Elementary School, Roosevelt Junior High School, Pittsburg High School and Kansas State Teacher’s College (currently PSU).
During her marriage to Norman Caldwell, Mrs. Neer gave birth to 3 children; Maribeth, Curtis and Christopher. They later divorced. Through her marriage to Harry Neer, she gained 3 step-daughters; Jeanene Braatan, Paula Cox and Peggy Shortridge.
Mrs. Neer had a varied career outside the home. In Pittsburg she worked for Dr. Vernon Berkey as a certified medical assistant, a cma while living in Tampa, FL, a realtor in KCKS and vice president of stocks and acquisitions at Bank One in Indianapolis. She retired from the later in 1999 when she and Mr. Neer moved to Bella Vista, AR where they resided over 20 years. After Mr. Neer’s death she returned to Pittsburg.
An avid bridge player, Mrs. Neer belonged to multiple bridge groups. She also belonged to Questors, PEO, medical assistants professional group, study club, Eastern Star, Rainbow Girls, Disciple Church Women, St. Anne’s Guild, ECW (she served as secretary and then president on the national board in addition to local involvement). Local membership was held in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.
Survivor’s include her daughter Maribeth Caldwell of Wichita, her son Curtis of Strafford, MO, her sister Mary Wintle of Frontenac, her step daughter Jeanine of Florida, her step daughter Peggy of Indianapolis, 5 granddaughters, 8 grandsons, 7 great granddaughters and 3 great grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harry, her son Christopher, her step daughter Paula and grandson Theo.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday (March 29) at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Pittsburg, with Fr. Ryan Willis officiating. A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Friday (Mar 28) at Brenner Mortuary in Pittsburg, KS. The family suggests memorials be given to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsbug, KS 66762. Friends may leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.
