James Robert “Butch” Glynn, 75, of Cherokee, Kansas, formerly of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away at 4:36 p.m. Thursday, September 19, 2024 at his home surrounded by family.
He was born April 23, 1949 in Wichita, Kansas the son of James “Jim” and Donna (Hiebert) Glynn.
Following high school, James enlisted in the US Army on February 6, 1968 and served during the Vietnam War until he was honorably discharged on February 10, 1970. Following his return home from Vietnam, he met Jesus and was saved in September of 1969. After he was discharged from the army, he attended the Lutheran Bible College in Los Angeles.
Mr. Glynn was self-employed as a Prototype Machinist. He could build almost anything.
In 1981, he was united in marriage to Sandra (Gray) Scott in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She worked with him in his business. They moved to Cherokee from Colorado Springs in 2020.
Mr. Glynn loved the outdoor lifestyle; while living in California, he enjoyed surfing. After moving to Colorado, he was a competitive hiker, hiking up Pikes Peak several times. His hobbies included gardening, cooking, and stained-glass projects.
In addition to his wife, Sandy, he is survived by a son Matthew Glynn of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a daughter, Erin Glynn of Fountain, Colorado; two sisters, Donna Ann Coe (David) of Sarasota, Florida, and Martha Thompson (Jay) of San Diego, California, sister-in-law Sherri Studyvin (Bill) of Cherokee, Kansas; four grandchildren, Trison Glynn, Kian Glynn, Zoe Glynn, and Jordan Hutchinson; nieces and nephews, including Diana Oertle (Randy) of Pittsburg and Paul Studyvin, who helped take care of him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Terry Glynn and Michael Carracino and by a daughter, Michelle Wilson.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday (Oct. 11) at the Brenner Mortuary with Chaplain Randy Beeman officiating. Burial will follow in the Ft. Scott National Cemetery with graveside military rites. Friends may leave condolences online. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary.
