Janos Halmai Obituary
Janos "Joe" Halmai, 85, of Pittsburg, KS, passed away on May 20, 2021, at Mercy Hospital Springfield in Springfield, Kansas.
Joe was born on March 20, 1936, to Kalman Halmai in Budapest, Hungary. He came to the US on the General Simon B. Buckner Ship. On May 1, 1957 he enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on October 5, 1962. Joe worked as a machinery mechanic for McNally Manufacturing and Superior Industries.
He is survived by four children, Jennifer Morang and her husband Max of Weir, KS, Laney Powell of Weir, KS, Melissa Giddens of Winfield, KS, and Joseph Halmai of Pittsburg, KS; his grandkids, Ashley Ratterree, Sydnee Morang, Jocelyn Rickman, Chrissy Kiilman, Thomas Giddens, Samantha Halmai; Great grandchildren, Brooklyn and Jessie.
He is preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Maria Halmai, Laszlo Halmai and Mihaly Halmai.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M Friday, June 18th, at the Fort Scott National Cemetery. Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS.
