John Colyer Obituary

John Michael Colyer, 66, of Pittsburg, passed away at 1:07 p.m., Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, KS.

            He was born February 10, 1954, at Pittsburg, KS, the son of John and Rose Mary (Naccarato) Colyer.

            On May 29, 1993, he was united in marriage to Lou Ann Price at the South Broadway Baptist Church, Pittsburg.  She survives of the home.

            John worked for a total of 35 years in Kansas Law Enforcement.  He spent the last 25 years as a Detective for the Pittsburg Police Department before his retirement. John was a state board member of the International Association for Identification, Kansas Division. 

            He was of the Christian Faith.  He often did Bible readings on Facebook.

            John was very active in World War II Historical Reenactments for over 25 years.  He was a national member of the WW II Historical Re-enactment Society. He participated in battles at Topeka National Air Guard museum, Ottawa’s Veterans Day celebration & many others including Crawford County Historical Museum. John was a fierce supporter of Veterans and Law Enforcement.  He also enjoyed building models, playing with his beloved dogs and was a huge Star Wars fan.

             In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, John Anthony Colyer of Pittsburg, KS, one daughter, Sarah Colyer of Pittsburg, KS, a brother, Gregg Colyer and his wife, Roberta of Joplin, MO, one sister, Kathy Blevins and her husband, Brian of Norton, KS, two granddaughters, Noelani and Indigo Colyer and numerous aunts, uncles, family members and law enforcement family.

            He is preceded in death by his parents.

            A private family service will be held at a later date.  There will be a public Celebration of Life sometime later next year.   Friends may call at the funeral home to sign the register book

from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 29.  The family suggests memorials to the Gary Sinise Foundation supporting Veterans and First Responders and/or Project Warmth Utility Fundraiser for Crawford County.  These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS  66762.  Friends may leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary.
