Katherine “Joan” Scifers, 91, of Pittsburg, passed away on October 10, 2021 at Oakview Estates in Frontenac, KS. She was born in Pittsburg, KS on October 24, 1929 to Vernon E. “Bab” and Marie C. (Carnegie) Babcock.
On December 28, 1949 she married Bob L. Scifers in Pittsburg. He preceded her in death on December 2, 2009.
Joan graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1947 and attended Kansas State Teachers College. After college, she worked for Southwestern Bell, AAA Travel, and over twenty years with Dr. Modesto Gometz and Dr. James McDaniel.
Member of the First Christian Church, Alpha Sigma Alpha Alumni, Daughter of the Nile.
She is survived by a son, Bob K. Scifers and his wife Colleen of Pittsburg, KS; a daughter Brenda King of Pittsburg, KS; and grandchildren, Rich King, Stacy Schicke, Bryan Thorpe, Amanda Higgins, Will King, and Tyler Scifers; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
A private family graveside service will be held at the Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to Mirza Transportation Fund and the USD #250 Foundation.
