Linda Gray Obituary

Linda Kay (Owens) Gray passed away July 7, 2020 in Frontenac, Kansas. 

She was born on September 28, 1943 to Glennice (Trembly) and William F. (Bill) Owens while her father was assigned to the U.S.S. Griswold, DE-07, in the South Pacific during World War II. 

She was their first child.  The family lived in Chanute, Kansas until 1959 when they moved to Parsons, Kansas.  Linda attended Murray Hill Elementary School, Royster Junior High School, and Chanute High School in Chanute.  She graduated from Parsons High School in 1961 and Parsons Junior College in 1963 prior to attending Kansas State College of Pittsburg, Kansas where she graduated in 1965. 

She was a lifetime member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority.  She taught at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center, at Erie High School in Erie, Kansas, and at Pittsburg High School in Pittsburg, Kansas. 

On December 21, 1968, Linda married Michael Lee Gray at the Washington Avenue Methodist Church in Parsons. 

They made their home in Chicopee, Kansas, and later moved to Pittsburg. Linda enjoyed horseback riding and barrel racing, raising Doberman dogs, teaching Red Cross swimming lessons, working with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, coaching cheerleaders at Pittsburg High School, and especially enjoyed attending all of her sons' athletic events. 

She is survived by her son, Bill and Jennifer Gray and their sons, Owen and Nathan of Diamond, Missouri, her son, Nick and Debbie Gray and their daughters, Jessica, Katie, and Samantha of Lansing, Kansas, her sister Barbara Owens Moon (Auggie), her sister Susan Owens Schmid (Vernon), her brother William C. (Bill) Owens (Mona), and her sister Sharon Owens Cotter (Rick) along with her nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She is also survived by many of her sorority sisters with whom she maintained lifelong friendships. 

Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Michael, and her parents.   

Mrs. Gray has been cremated. A private family burial will be at a later date in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery at Parsons, KS. The family suggests memorials to the SEK Humane Society and/or the Linda Owens Gray Memorial Scholarship which has been established in honor of Linda's devotion to her career in secondary education. Donations may be sent to: Commercial Bank P.
