Obituary

Lorn Jay Burdick, 75, of Pittsburg, KS, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his family. Lorn was born on November 10, 1946, in Pittsburg, KS, to Leroy “Roy” and Victoria (Stoper) Burdick. On October 26, 1968, he was united in marriage to Mardell Wilson. She survives of the home.

In 1968, Lorn received his BS from Pittsburg State University and became an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Government Agent. Lorn retired from the armed forces of the United States of America as a Lieutenant Colonel. Lorn enjoyed playing softball, running the JL Hutchison Baseball League for over 25 years. Lorn also enjoyed his bowling league and running the Pittsburg Parks and Rec softball program for over 20 years. He and his wife along with their daughters ran the Jock’ Nitch softball tournament for 25 years. Lorn had a great passion for his family, coaching and watching his girls play sports. After retiring Lorn opened his own Tax Servies, umpired softball and officiated volleyball through KSHSAA. Throughout the year you could find Lorn and Mardell watching all their six grandchildren play sports and at dance recitals.

He is survived by his wife Mardell, two daughters Cindy Burdick, of Pittsburg, KS and Cathy Ratzlaff (Chris) of Pittsburg, KS; six grandchildren, Megan Burdick, Caitlyn Burdick, Cameron Ratzlaff, Reagan Burdick, Cooper Ratzlaff, and Caleigh Ratzlaff and a great-grandson Rhett Prince. One brother-in-law, Ralph Reinbolt, of Wichita, KS and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Victoria (Stoper) Burdick and a brother Ronald Burdick.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 19th, 2022 at 2:00 PM in the Brenner Mortuary with Pastor Dan Moss officiating. Burial will follow at the Crocker Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Brenner Mortuary. The family suggests memorials be given to S.E.K Humane Society.
