Mary Ellen Witt, 102, of Pittsburg, passed away Friday morning, August 12, 2022 at her home.
She was born February 20, 1920 at Pittsburg, Kansas, the daughter of Albert and Abbie (Cahill) Massmann. She graduated from Pittsburg High School and was a Pittsburg resident all of her life.
In February 1943, she was united in marriage to Donald Wayne Witt. He preceded her in death on December 6, 1981.
Mrs. Witt worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons during WWII. She later worked at J.C. Penneys from 1970 until she retired in 1980.
Membership was held in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
Survivors include four sons, John Witt of Tucson, Arizona, Mike (Liz) Witt of Omaha, Nebraska, Mark (Catherine) Witt of Simi Valley, California and Matthew Witt of Pittsburg; a daughter, Susan (A.J.) Wachter of Pittsburg; and nine grandchildren, Michael, Jeff, Jesse, Jonathon, Sarah, Julie, Shawn, Patrick, and Brian; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Albert Massmann, Pat Massmann, Fr. Albert Massmann, and a sister, Joan Baron.
A parish rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m. Friday (Aug. 19) at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday (Aug. 19) at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Andrew Labenz as celebrant. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the National Cemetery at Fort Scott, Kansas. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday to sign the register book at the Brenner Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorial contributions to the Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Fund. These may be left or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th, Pittsburg, KS 66762.
