Merle Markley Obituary

Merle Markley, 89, of Pittsburg, passed away at 2:39 a.m., Friday, March 19, 2021, at Medicalodge South of Pittsburg.

            He was born July 25, 1931, at rural McCune, KS, the son of Perry and Vetra (Boore) Markley.

            On November 6, 1949, he was united in marriage to Marvella E. Davis at the Parsons Church of Christ.  She survives of the home, Pittsburg.

            Mr. Markley worked as an owner/operator in many different fields including: farming and cattle ranching, coal mining, farm implement dealer, and he flew private air planes.  Mr. Markley liked to travel and he and his wife had been to 49 states, as well as internationally to Israel, Egypt, Bermuda, Bahamas and Canada.

            Membership was held in the Church of Christ, Pittsburg.  He also served on the McCune School Board.

            In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Darrel Markley (Sheila) of Pittsburg, KS, two daughters, Valerie Harris (Alan) of Luray, VA, and Vicki Younger (Steven) of Branson, MO, one sister, Marguerite Pendleton of Pittsburg, KS, eleven grandchildren; Brian Markley, Brad Markley Sr., Amanda Williams, Lisa Shaffer, Clint Harris, Natalie Glaser, Mitchell Harris, Julianna Harris, Alec Harris, Rachel Herrera and Andrea Waldrop, eighteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

            He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marie Satzler.

            The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg.  Burial of cremains will take place at a later date at the McCune City Cemetery, McCune, KS.  The family suggests memorials to the Eastern European Missions and/or Gospel Chariots and/or Ukraine Mission.  Memorials may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS  66762.  Friends may also leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, KS.
