Michael Bitner

Michael Bitner, 77, of Pittsburg, passed away at 8:35 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at the Pittsburg Care and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born May 22, 1945 at Houston, Texas, the son of Lawrence A. and Anna Katherine (Sullivan) Bitner. He attended school at All Saints Grade School and then St. Pius X High School in Houston.

He served in the United States Army with the 56th Supply Service Battalion in Germany and Vietnam, being honorably discharged in 1967.

Michael worked in construction in Houston until he became disabled and moved to Pittsburg in 1981 to live with his mother.

Michael was of Catholic faith. He volunteered at New Horizons. He loved sports, especially the Houston Astros and Dallas Cowboys. He had a vast knowledge of stats on baseball and football.

Survivors include a nephew, Larry Bitner; a niece, Tammy Bitner; one great nephew, three great nieces; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, August “Gus” Bitner, Patrick Bitner, as well as an infant brother and an infant sister.

A parish rosary will be prayed at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. Monday (July 18) at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg with Fr. Andrew Labenz as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the Brenner Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Disabled American Veterans. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS  66762.
