September 2, 1916 ~ November 8, 2022 (age 106) 106 Years Old

Murl Robison Obituary

Murl L. Robison, 106, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 8, 2022.  He lived at his farm until his death of old age but with a very sharp mind.  He was a proud member of “The Greatest Generation” and one of the last WWII Veterans.

Born September 2, 1916 in Columbus, Kansas to Stacy Bevan Robison and Ethel Mayhood Robison.  He married Helen Pyne Robison on February 14, 1941 and they were lovingly married 62 years at the time of her death in 2003.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army from June 20, 1941 – Dec. 17, 1945.    He served in the Pacific Theatre and fought at the battle of Leyte in the Philippines until the Liberation of the Philippines.  He served under General MacArthur in the Philippines.  Then he was one of the first soldiers to enter the bomb site of Nagasaki, Japan to help with the occupation.

He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, the Philippines Liberation Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal and Honorable Service.

Murl returned from serving his country to his farm in Columbus and resided at his farm near Columbus until his death.  He was a member of the United Methodist Church.  He served on the Hallowell School Board for years, helped form the Columbus Coop and Cherokee County Hereford Association, was a member of the American Legion, loved to quail hunt and enjoyed every minute of being with his family. 

 He is survived by his sons:  Murl D. (Bud), Mark, and Rob; daughter, Marylee, and sister, Lois Crain. 

Grandchildren, Sheree, Shantel, Sharla, Marci, Jill, Scott, Eric and Nicole.  Nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. 

Murl was preceded in death by his siblings: Purl (his identical twin), Vern, Glenn, Stacy, Bob, Fern Smith, Doris Holland and Ruby Dehart.

Brenner Mortuary in Pittsburg, Kansas is handling the private family service and full military service.  Friends are invited to sign the guest book from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., starting on Saturday, November 12 through Thursday evening November 17.    The family kindly request that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Columbus United Methodist Church or charity of your choice. These may be left or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th, Pittsburg, KS 66762.
