Obituary

Riki Kristine Davis, 52, of Pittsburg, passed away Friday, June 30, 2023 at Via Christi Hospital. She was born August 18, 1970 at Manhattan, Kansas, the daughter of Richard and Roberta (Leonard) Davis. Riki lived with her sister, Rhonda, for most of her life, they lived in Wichita until Rhonda passed suddenly following a brief illness and surgery. After Rhonda's death, Riki moved to Pittsburg to a New Hope Residential Services house to be closer to her family.

Riki enjoyed attending Day Services at The Lodge, a support program provided by New Hope Services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She was not a joiner and would quickly decline all invitations with, "No way Jose!", but did enjoy participating from afar! She was a foodie and enjoyed watching all kinds of cooking shows and going out to eat, especially for pancakes. She looked forward to her coffee with 2 sugars and 2 creamers each morning and had no problem letting her caregivers know if she hadn't had it yet! She enjoyed all holidays and celebrations, especially those that centered around her, and loved everything Scooby Doo! Riki could recite all the words to every Charlie Brown movie and lovingly addressed her sister, as "Sir" from the Peanuts Cartoons. She loved listening to music and one of her greatest memories was attending a Neil Diamond concert in Wichita with her sister. She brought a smile to everyone's face as she sang along and boasted, "I wrote this song!", she wore her concert t-shirt for a solid week before letting Rhonda wash it!

Survivors include her aunt and uncle, Sue and Doyle Danker and her cousin Desiree Humble who also served as her guardian following the death of her sister. She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving sister, Rhonda Davis.

Everyone "eventually" fell in love with Riki's bold personality and her colorful vocabulary! She had a gift of saying exactly what everyone else was thinking but was too afraid, or polite, to say! She was also loved for her kindness to others and was often admired for her strong determination to advocate for those whom "she felt" were in need! Riki will be missed by all those who loved and cared for her. Her last act of kindness was her gift of organ donation. Her family would like to thank Riki's New Hope family for their love and care of her the past 2 1/2 years as well as their support through their loss of Riki, to Dr. Garner and all of the staff at Via Christi Hospital ER and ICU for the wonderful care they provided, and a special thank you to Elizabeth Prauser, RN, Case Management at Via Christi for holding their heart and hands through this tragic loss and for organizing the amazing Honor Walk for Riki prior to her passing!

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, July 26th at New Hope Services. Riki's ashes will be buried with her sisters at the Highland Cemetery in Junction City, Kansas.
