Robert Henry Kunshek

Robert Henry Kunshek, 77, of Frontenac, KS, died Nov. 13th, 2024, at home surrounded by his beloved family, after a six-month battle with cancer.

He was born Dec. 16th, 1946, in Pittsburg, KS to Henry and Julia (Verardi) Kunshek and attended school in Pittsburg.

On July 9th, 1977, he was united in marriage to the love of his life Betty Papish at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac.

Bob graduated from Pittsburg State University in 1970 with a degree in Business Administration. He also served his country in the US Army Reserve from 1967 to 1973 being Honorably Discharged.

After college Bob worked at W.T. Grant in Davenport, Iowa before coming back to work with his father in the family business. Bob took over Kunshek Chat & Coal, Inc. in 1988 and grew the company into one of the safest, most-respected fleets in the Midwest. He truly loved his company family and loved helping others build better lives.

In his free time Bob liked to work. He also enjoyed his children and grandchildren’s ball games, attending Royals Spring Training, and following the Chiefs!

He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, serving as Eucharistic Minister for many years. He was also a member of the Frontenac Zoning Board for 20 years.

He is survived by his wife of over 47 years; their two children – Scott (Kendra) Kunshek of Frontenac, KS, Brett (Amber) Kunshek of Overland Park, KS; their six grandchildren, whom he adored – Baron, Strauss, Seville, Piper, Duncan, and Poppy – his sister – Judith (Art) Cawthra.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son.

The Kunshek family would like to thank the wonderful doctors, caregivers, neighbors, and friends for the loving care provided to Robert and the family over the past several months.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday (Nov. 18th) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac with Fr. Josh Evans as celebrant. A parish rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 17th) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where the family receive friends following until 7:00 p.m.  Burial will be in the Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Sacred Heart Building Fund or the Frontenac Quarterback Club.
