Rolla Melton Hurlbert, Jr., 74, of Opolis, Kansas, passed away at 5:42 a.m. Friday, December 18, 2020 at his home.
He was born June 18, 1946 at Pittsburg, Kansas to Rolla Melton Sr. and Betty Jane (Baird) Hurlbert. He graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1964 and then attended VoTech School. He had been a resident of Opolis since 1967.
Rolla served in the United States Air Force from 1964 until 1972, when he was honorably discharge as a Staff Sargent.
On January 16, 1975, he was united in marriage to Ramona K. Rodabaugh in Mindenmines, Missouri. She preceded him in death on July 27, 2006.
Mr. Hurlbert was a maintenance mechanic for Superior Industries for twenty years, retiring in 2008.
Membership was held in the Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post #64 and the Blackdogs Muzzeloards.
Survivors include a son, Terry Hurlbert of Opolis, Kansas; a daughter, Jenifer Blakslee of Maryland; a brother, Jerry Hurlbert and his wife, Jean of Pittsburg; a granddaughter, MaKayla Buffington of Cherokee, Kansas; a grandson, Bryan Buffington of Cherokee, Kansas, a daughter-in-law, Billie Stanley of Cherokee, KS and a cousin, Tom Ulmer of Asbury, KS; and grandchildren, Caitlyn, Samantha, and Edward Blakslee all of Maryland.
He was preceded in death by his parent, his wife, Ramona Hurlbert, and a step-son, Troy Buffington.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday (December 21) at the Brenner Mortuary with Rev. Vivian Davison officiating. Burial will follow in the Crocker Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Brenner Mortuary where friends may call after 10:00 a.m. to sign the register.
