William "Bill" O'Toole Obituary

William “Bill” O’Toole, 76, of Girard, Kansas, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2023 at his home.

He was born January 9, 1947 at the family home in Girard to Lawrence Sylvester and Helen Louise (Bergmann) O’Toole. He graduated from St. Francis High School in St. Paul in 1965 and later from Central Western University with a Bachelor’s of Science in 1990.

Mr. O’Toole served in the United State Air Force from 1965 to 1985. He was an Air Traffic Controller. Following his honorable discharge, he worked in Logistics at Boeing Manufacturing where he worked for thirty-three years before retiring.

On June 25, 1966, he was united in marriage to Pauline Ruth Merrigan at Westover AFB in Springfield, Massachusetts. They later divorced. On September 27, 1980 he was married to Roxanne J. Floyd at Peru, New York. She preceded him in death on August 24, 2019.

Membership was held in St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Girard.

Survivors include a daughter, Erin Trivas (Mitchell) of Baltimore, Maryland; a step-son, Steven Floyd of Yankton, SD; a step-daughter, Marcia Mason of Oklahoma; five brothers, Ed O’Toole (Betty) of Bedford, TX, Ronnie O’Toole (Norita) of McCune, KS, Steve O’Toole (Susan) of Girard, KS, Tim O’Toole of Girard, KS, and Mike O’Toole (Kathy) of Girard, KS; a sister, Chris Cox of Girard, KS; five grandchildren, Jack and Ben Trivas, and True Olivia Bean, Liam Campbell O’Toole, J'Cee Smith; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Ann O’Toole of Girard, KS. In his last years, he enjoyed the renewed companionship of his high school friend, Toni Burke-Stretch and her dear family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, William S. O’Toole, his wife, Roxie O’Toole, a sister, Patricia Kay O’Toole, and a brother, Jim O’Toole.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday (April 22) at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Girard with Fr. Mike Klagg as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery in Greenbush. A parish rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Friday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. The family will receive friends following the rosary until 8:00 p.m. at the church. The family suggests memorials be given to St. Aloysius Historical Society.
