September 21, 1964 ~ June 9, 2023 (age 58) 58 Years Old

Obituary

Willie Turner Woods Jr. (58) passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023. He was born September 21, 1964, to Carrie Turner Woods and Willie Woods in Hollandale, MS. Willie held many names: Junior, dad, Husk, OG, papa and unck. Each name, he wore with pride. Willie was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he had an enormous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. He had a laugh that was simply contagious; the kind of laugh that made you laugh too. Willie was a free spirit, who was full of life. In his youth, he was the life of the party. You would often find him on the dance floor busting a move! No matter the song, Willie had a move for you, but his signature move was the splits. If there was a special occasion or game, he would always try to make an appearance; especially if his beloved Dallas Cowboys were involved. To know Willie was to love him. He was a family man who was adored by many and felt like a member of everyone's family. He was loyal and generous. If you needed help, he would find a way even if he did not have it. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Under the leadership of Reverend E.C. Williams in Hollandale, MS, Willie gave his life to Christ at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. He graduated from Simmons High School and studied at Alcorn State University. He moved to Lawrence, KS in 1987 where he worked for several companies, but his favorite was Standard Beverage Corporation. Willie decided he needed a change and moved away from Lawrence, KS in 1997. He later found his way to Parsons, KS, where he worked at Ruskin Manufacturing, until his health declined. In 2014, his heart led him to Pittsburg, KS where he resided until his death.

Willie was preceded in death by his parents, Carrie Turner Woods and Willie Woods, and two siblings, CJ Turner and Bessie Taylor.

His love and light will forever be cherished in the lives of his fiancé Jeannie Williams of Pittsburgh, KS, ten children: Christopher Williams of Hollandale, MS, Jasmine Turner, Hayley Wolken both of Parsons, KS, Heather Wolken, Bruce Wolken, Jessica (John) Altman, all of Erie, KS, Bradley Wolken of Paducah, KY, Shawna Lindsey of Frontenac, KS, Keithia Williams of Phoenix, AZ and Ryan Williams of Pittsburg, KS; as well as 16 grandchildren. Willie also leaves memories to thirteen siblings: Earnestine (Rance) Neal, Ruby Faye Woods, Oliver Woods, Benjamin Woods, Katrice Woods all of Lawrence, KS, Estella Woods of Erlanger, KY, Dorothy Buchanan, William (Debra) Woods both of Hollandale, MS, Rosetta Thomas of Decatur, AL, Hertestine (Walter) Cooks, Elizabeth (Warchester) Wims, both of Chicago, IL, Delorise (James) Gary of Phoenix, AZ, and Alfred Hamilton of Greenville, MS; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

A Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 23, 2023, at Brenner Mortuary with Reverend Mark Chambers officiating. Burial will follow at the Crocker Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Brenner Mortuary. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS.
