Winogene Conover passed away on Monday, July 12, 2021 in Kansas City, Missouri at the Kansas City Hospice House.
Winogene was born April 17, 1926 in Cherokee, Kansas to Shannon and Winifred (McCants) Clugston. She attended Cherokee schools and graduated from Crawford Community High School in 1943. She attended Pittsburg State College where she was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, Honorary Music Fraternity, and Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. Per a quote from her hometown newspaper The Cherokee Sentinel “Winogene was a very talented musician through high school and college. Her violin playing will be remembered for years to come”.
Winogene married James B. Conover in 1950. They had four children, James Shannon, David Andrew, Karen Elizabeth and John Charles. Jim passed away in 1970 and Winogene continued to raise the children in Kansas City, MO. Winogene was preceded in death by her parents, Shannon and Winifred Clugston, her husband James B. Conover in 1970 and her son James Shannon Conover in 2008, six brothers, Frank, Chester, Billy, George, Robert and Donald Clugston.
Survivors include sons David Andrew Conover, Kansas City, MO, John Charles (Lorie) Conover, Kansas City, MO, daughter Karen Elizabeth Conover, Kansas City, MO, grandson James Roger (Julie) Conover, Lee’s Summit, MO, granddaughter Jacqueline Kathleen (Ian) Flowers, Kansas City, MO, great-grandsons Jackson James Conover and Nikolai James Flowers, great-granddaughters, Emma Grace Conover and Simone Xenia Flowers, one brother Warren (Margaret) Clugston.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 16th at 2:00 p.m. at the Brenner Mortuary. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS.
